In 1139 AD, Saint Malachy, Archbishop of Armagh (Ireland), received a divine vision during a pilgrimage to Rome. He saw a series of 112 cryptic Latin mottos, each representing a future Pope — from Celestine II (1143) to the final pontiff, under whom the judgment of Rome would begin.

His full manuscript, sent to the Vatican, was hidden for over 400 years. When it was finally published in 1595, several final prophecies were redacted or misrepresented.
