📖 PISTIS SOPHIA – BOOK ONE

Chapter 1

(From the British Library Askew Codex, translation by G.R.S. Mead and others. Preserved in original structure.)

CHAPTER 1.

It came to pass, when Jesus had risen from the dead, that he passed eleven years speaking with his disciples and instructing them only on the lower mysteries of the first sphere and the second and the third and the fourth and the fifth sphere and the sixth and the seventh sphere and the nine guards of the great invisible ones. And Jesus said to his disciples:

“I have come forth from that first mystery, which is the last mystery, which is the four-and-twentieth mystery.”

And his disciples said unto him:

“O Lord, reveal unto us the mystery of the Light of thy Father, since we have heard thee say that there is another mystery of the Light of thy Father, and that there is a higher mystery than this.”

And Jesus said unto them:

“If I lead you into the Light of my Father, and ye hear the Light of the Light, and behold the Light, and know it, ye will be afraid of the universe from this day. But if ye hear the Light of the Light and know it not, ye will not be afraid of the universe from this hour. I will now reveal unto you all things concerning the Light and the mysteries thereof.”

And it came to pass, when Jesus had spoken these words, that he spoke unto his disciples in a mystery, saying unto them:

“Understand, ye disciples, and know what I say unto you: I went forth from that first mystery, which is the last mystery, which is the four-and-twentieth mystery.”

– CHAPTER 2

It came to pass then, when Jesus had finished saying these words to his disciples, that he continued again in the discourse and said unto them:

“It came to pass, when I came forth from the midst of the rulers of the aeons, I passed through the midst of their regions and changed myself into the form of Gabriel the angel of the aeons; and the rulers of the aeons did not recognize me, but they thought I was the angel Gabriel.

“And it came to pass, when I had entered into the firmament, I changed myself into the form of the angel of the firmament, and all the archons and all the powers who are in the firmament were thrown into confusion, and I departed from them without their knowing me.

“And it came to pass thereafter, when I had come into the region of the sphere, I changed myself into the form of the angel of the sphere; and all who are in the sphere were thrown into confusion, and I departed from them without their knowing me or understanding me.

“But in truth I entered into the region of the fate, which is the twelve æons; and I changed myself into the form of their angel, and all the archons and all the powers who are in the twelve aeons were thrown into confusion and fell into trouble, great and violent, seeing the great light which was about me.

“And their great confusion and their great trouble reached up to the place of the great Invisible Forefather of the All.

“And he saw that confusion had taken place in the twelve aeons, and he sent twelve great invisible saviors, who are in the treasury of the light, to come into the aeons and to lead Pistis Sophia out of the chaos.”

📖 CHAPTER 3

“And it came to pass, when I entered into the twelve aeons, that I passed through them, I who am Jesus, bearing a great light, and I made them all quake, and they were thrown into confusion, one over against the other, and they did not recognize me.

“But they thought that I was a messenger of the Light who had come to them.

“And I came into the region of the fate of the twelve aeons, and I changed myself into the form of their angel, and they did not recognize me, for I seemed to them to be their angel.

“And after this I looked down on the world of mankind and saw all men as they were like a drop of water from the sea or a grain of sand in the desert.

“And I turned to the disciples and said unto them: I have gone forth from that world, and I have come down into the world of mankind in order to save mankind from the power of the archons of the aeons.”

📖 CHAPTER 4

“Now it came to pass, when I had come into the world of mankind, I taught in the world, and I performed all the mighty works which were appointed unto me by the First Mystery.

“And it came to pass, when I had fulfilled all my time, I was crucified and tasted of death and rose again from the dead.

“Now it came to pass, when I rose again from the dead, that I entered into the inner regions of the rulers of the aeons in order to take the power from them which they had taken from Pistis Sophia.

“And I took the power from them and brought it back to Pistis Sophia.

“And it came to pass thereafter, when the time was fulfilled, that I came into the midst of you and began to speak with you about the things that are from the beginning of the truth even unto the completion thereof.”

📖 CHAPTER 5

“Now, therefore, Mary, thou blessed one, who dost inherit the Light, I will reveal unto thee all things which have happened to Pistis Sophia.

“It came to pass, when Pistis Sophia was in the thirteenth aeon, in the region of all her brethren, the invisible ones, that she looked forth into the height, she saw the light of the veil of the treasury of the light, and she longed to reach to that place, and she gave praise to the Light of the height.

“But the twelve aeons of the rulers heard her praise, and they were angry at her and hated her because she had thought of greatness and had withdrawn herself from the regions in which she was.

“And it came to pass thereafter that Pistis Sophia came forth from her region in the thirteenth aeon and came into the twelve aeons, that she might go to the height; but she was not able to go to the height, but she was surrounded in the regions of the twelve aeons, and they hated her because she had thought of greatness, and they hated her the more because she had withdrawn herself.”

CHAPTER 6

It came to pass then, when Sophia had been taken to the twelve aeons, that she came forth into the midst of them; she went to and fro, trying to go to the height, that she might go to the region whence she had come forth.

And the rulers of the aeons pursued her, and she looked forth into the height.

She saw that light, that was in the height, and she thought to herself:

“I will go to that place, without my consort, and take the light.”

And she went forth, and passed through all the aeons of the rulers, and came into the chaos, and drew nigh that light.

And when she drew nigh, all the archons of the chaos surrounded her; and the great power of the Self-willed, who is one of the three triple-powers, took from her all her light powers, and she cried out with a loud voice in repentance.

📖 CHAPTER 7

It came to pass, when Pistis Sophia had been carried off into the chaos, that she cried out with a loud voice to the light of the heights, and she sang praises to it, believing that the light would come and save her from the darkness.

And in that hour she sang this repentance, saying:

“O Light of lights, in whom I have had faith from the beginning,

Hear me now in this hour, O Light.

Save me, O Light, for evil thoughts have entered into me.

I gazed upon the light in the height and I have fallen into the darkness of chaos.

Let the light which is in thee save me.

For thou art my savior and my deliverer.

Bring me forth from the chaos of darkness.

May the rays of thy light shine upon me.

For I have trusted in thee.

Save me for thy mercy’s sake.

Let me not remain in the darkness.

May I behold the light of thy countenance.

For I have trusted in thee, O Light of the heights.”

📖 CHAPTER 8

It came to pass then, when Pistis Sophia had uttered this first repentance, in that hour all the aeons cried out, blaming the Self-willed for having done this.

And Jesus said unto his disciples:

“It came to pass, when the Self-willed and the rulers in the chaos had taken away from Pistis Sophia her light, that they threw her into the chaos below the twelve aeons.”

And it came to pass, when they threw her into the chaos, she was greatly affrighted and repented with loud lamentation.

And she cried again to the Light, saying:

“O Light of the heights, I have lifted up mine eyes unto thee.

Let thy light come over me.

Take me out of the chaos.

Let me not be left in the darkness.

Let the power of thy light save me.

May I be set free from the terror which surroundeth me.

For I have trusted in thee, and I cry unto thee.

Save me in thy light.”

📖 CHAPTER 9

It came to pass again thereafter, that she sang the second repentance, saying:

“O Light, I have sinned against thee.

The archons of the aeons have taken away my light.

I have walked in the vanity of the Self-willed.

I have trusted in his power and he has deceived me.

I have descended from the place of my dwelling.

I have come into the chaos of the darkness.

I have fallen away from thy light.

Now, O Light of the heights, hear me and save me.

Take away from me the evil thoughts which have bound me.

Do not forsake me, O Light, for I have trusted in thee.”

📖 CHAPTER 10

And it came to pass, when she had spoken this, the Light remembered her.

And Jesus said unto his disciples:

“It came to pass, when Pistis Sophia had spoken these words of repentance, that the Light remembered her and sent a power from itself, which went to her and brought her out of the chaos.”

And Pistis Sophia rejoiced greatly when she saw the Light, and she sang a song of joy unto the Light that had saved her.

“I will praise thee, O Light,

for thou hast saved me from the depths of the chaos.

I will bless thy name, for thou hast remembered me.

I was in the darkness and thou didst bring me into the light.

I was in the depths, and thou didst stretch forth thy hand and lift me up.

I will praise thee with all my strength,

for thou art the savior of my soul.”

CHAPTER 11

It came to pass then, when Pistis Sophia had sung praises unto the Light, that all the powers in the chaos envied her, and again they cried out to the Self-willed, that he might not let her be taken out of the chaos.

And the Self-willed sent out a multitude of his powers, and they oppressed Pistis Sophia again, and took away all her light from her and left her in the darkness.

It came to pass then, that she cried out again to the Light, saying:

“O Light, thou in whom I have trusted,

Look down upon me and save me.

For the powers of darkness have surrounded me,

They have taken away my light and left me nothing.

Thou art my hope, O Light,

Thou art my deliverer.

Let not my enemies rejoice over me.

Give me strength, O Light,

For I am without power.

Deliver me from the depths of chaos.

Lead me into thy light,

For thou art my Savior.”

📖 CHAPTER 12

And it came to pass, when she had spoken this, that the Light sent her another power, which strengthened her and lifted her up out of the chaos again.

And Jesus said unto his disciples:

“It came to pass, when Pistis Sophia had been again brought up out of the chaos by the power of the Light, that she rejoiced and gave thanks unto the Light, because it had remembered her and had sent her power to deliver her.”

And she sang a song of joy, saying:

“I will bless thee, O Light,

For thou hast heard my cry.

Thou hast sent thine angels to rescue me.

Thou hast delivered me from the snare of the archons.

I will sing praises unto thee,

For thou art my refuge and my strength.

The wicked surrounded me,

But thou didst send thy power and deliver me.

I will dwell in the light of thy presence forever.”

📖 CHAPTER 13

And it came to pass again, when the archons of the chaos saw that Pistis Sophia had been lifted out of their darkness, they were enraged and cried out again to the Self-willed.

And the Self-willed again sent forth his powers, and they again cast Pistis Sophia into the lowest parts of the chaos, and they oppressed her greatly.

And again she cried unto the Light:

“O Light, how long shall I be cast down?

The oppressors surround me.

They take delight in my suffering.

I have trusted in thee, O Light,

Deliver me quickly.

Judge my enemies, O Light,

For they have taken my light.

My soul cries out in pain,

Remember me, O Source of all.”

📖 CHAPTER 14

And again, when Pistis Sophia had spoken this repentance, the Light heard her cry, and sent her a great power, and it descended into the chaos, and it delivered her from her affliction.

And she sang again, saying:

“Thou art merciful, O Light,

Thou dost not forget the lowly.

I was in darkness,

And thou brought me into light.

The oppressors sought my destruction,

But thy power was with me.

I will praise thy name,

For thou art faithful and true.”

📖 CHAPTER 15

And it came to pass, when she had been brought up once more, that the rulers of the aeons and of the chaos conspired together, saying:

“Let us take from her the whole of her light, so that she may be unable to go to the height and be lost in the chaos forever.”

And they pursued her again with great fury, and took away the remaining light from her.

Then Pistis Sophia cried aloud for the fifth time:

“O Light of lights,

I have no light left in me.

They have robbed me of all I had.

My strength has failed me.

I lie in the pit of forgetfulness.

Send me thy light, O Source.

Save me from these powers,

For I have no help but thee.”

📖 CHAPTER 16

And the Light again heard the voice of Sophia and sent out a power to strengthen her.

And Jesus said:

“Blessed is the soul that trusteth in the Light,

For though it be cast down,

Yet shall it be lifted up again.”

And Pistis Sophia rejoiced and praised the Light, saying:

“Thou art my strength, O Light,

Thou hast not forsaken me.

In the day of trouble thou wert with me.

The darkness shall not hold me,

For thy power is my refuge.”

📖 CHAPTER 17

But again the rulers of the aeons were angered, and they sent a great fear upon the chaos to bind Sophia with terror.

And again she cried out to the Light, saying:

“The shadows have surrounded me.

The fear of the rulers has entered into me.

My soul is cast down,

Yet I trust in thy promise.

O Light, do not forget me.

Stretch forth thy hand and save me.

Let me not perish in the darkness.

Raise me up to the place of my rest.”

📖 CHAPTER 18

And the Light hearkened again and sent another power. And it descended into the chaos and drove away the fear from her.

And Sophia sang:

“Thy mercy is great, O Light.

Thou art near to all who call.

Thou hast scattered my oppressors.

Thou hast lifted me up again.

I shall not be moved.

I will walk in thy light forever.”

📖 CHAPTER 19

But the archons, seeing her rejoicing, were enraged and brought a great darkness over her once again, and she cried out:

“My path is hidden from me.

I do not know where to turn.

All the lights are gone from before me.

The watchers have turned their faces.

Yet will I trust in the Light.

I shall remember thy name

Even in the land of forgetfulness.”

📖 CHAPTER 20

And the Light responded to her cry and sent forth an even greater power, brighter than all those before it.

And it entered into Sophia and filled her with strength.

And she sang:

“Thy greatness is unsearchable, O Light.

Thou hast not left me to perish.

I was alone, and thou camest to me.

My eyes have seen thy glory.

My soul is restored.

I shall ascend from the chaos,

For thy power is my ladder.”

CHAPTER 21

Jesus continued and said unto his disciples:

“It came to pass, when Pistis Sophia had uttered the thirteenth repentance, that she turned herself to the height in order to see whether her sin had been forgiven her and whether she would be brought out of the chaos.

And she saw the Light-power that had come forth from me, that it had not yet brought her up out of the chaos.

And she thought the Light had not forgiven her sin.

Then was she sorely grieved, and she lifted up her voice to the Light and sang a fourteenth repentance, saying:

‘O Light, I trusted in thee.

Let me not be put to shame.

Let not my foes rejoice over me.

For all those who trust in thee shall not be put to shame.

Show me thy ways, O Light.

Teach me thy paths.

Lead me in thy truth and teach me.

For thou art the God of my salvation.

On thee I wait all the day long.’”

📖 CHAPTER 22

It came to pass, when Pistis Sophia had uttered this repentance, that the Light sent forth another great Light-power to aid her and bring her up out of the chaos.

And the Light-power descended and came unto Sophia and took her hand and drew her out of the chaos.

And when Sophia saw that she had been helped, she sang a song of thanksgiving to the Light:

“Great is thy mercy, O Light.

Thou hast answered me.

Thou hast lifted me from the deep.

My enemies saw my downfall,

But thou hast raised me up before them.

I will proclaim thy name in the midst of the aeons.”

📖 CHAPTER 23

Jesus said unto his disciples:

“It came to pass, when Pistis Sophia had been drawn up from the chaos and had been delivered of all her tribulations, that she rejoiced and sang this song of praise:

‘I will exalt thee, O Light,

For thou hast drawn me up.

Thou hast not let my foes rejoice over me.

O Light, I cried unto thee and thou didst heal me.

Thou broughtest my soul up from hell.

Thou hast kept me alive.

I will praise thee for ever and ever.’”

📖 CHAPTER 24

Then Mary Magdalene stepped forward and said to Jesus:

“My Lord, command me to speak in openness.”

Jesus said: “Mary, thou blessed one, whom I will perfect in all mysteries, thou whose heart is directed toward the Kingdom of Heaven more than all thy brethren, speak the thought of thy heart.”

Mary said:

“My Lord, concerning the word that thy power hath spoken through David: ‘Sing praises unto the Lord, all ye his saints, and give thanks to his holy name’ — is this not the repentance of Pistis Sophia when she was saved from the chaos?”

Jesus said unto her:

“Well said, Mary, thou blessed one. This is indeed the song of repentance which Pistis Sophia spoke.”

📖 CHAPTER 25

It came to pass then, when Jesus had finished speaking these words to his disciples, that he said:

“He who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

It came to pass again that Pistis Sophia was still in the chaos, and the power of the Light had not yet fully raised her.

And she cried once more unto the Light, saying:

*‘Save me, O Light,

From this lion-faced power.

From the hands of the Self-willed.

For thou knowest my foolishness,

And my guilt is not hidden from thee.

Let not them who seek thee be confounded for my sake.

Let them not be ashamed,

Because I have trusted in thee.’”

📖 CHAPTER 26

Jesus continued again in the discourse and said unto his disciples:

“It came to pass again that Pistis Sophia continued in her twelfth repentance, saying:

*‘My enemies are strong and they hate me without cause.

They have rewarded me evil for good.

I was made a stranger unto my brethren.

I became an alien to the sons of my mother.

Reproach hath broken my heart.

I am full of heaviness.

I looked for someone to take pity, but there was none.

And for comforters, but I found none.’”

📖 CHAPTER 27

It came to pass again, when Pistis Sophia had said these words, that the Light sent forth a great power to help her and deliver her from the Self-willed and his lion-faced powers.

And when Sophia had received this power, she turned and rebuked the Self-willed:

“Away from me, O enemy of the Light.

Thou who art filled with darkness.

Thou shalt not consume me,

For the Light is with me.

I have cried unto the holy name,

And it hath saved me from thy hands.”

📖 CHAPTER 28

Mary Magdalene again came forward and said:

“My Lord, give commandment unto me to speak.”

Jesus said:

“Speak, Mary, thou daughter of light.”

Mary said:

“My Lord, the words spoken by Pistis Sophia in her repentance — are they not those which David spoke in the Psalms?”

Jesus said:

“Well said, Mary. This is the song David sang through the Spirit, and now Sophia hath fulfilled it in the great repentance.”

📖 CHAPTER 29

Jesus said unto his disciples:

“It came to pass again, after all these things, that Pistis Sophia was still singing hymns of praise, for the Light had saved her from the chaos.

And she rejoiced exceedingly, and sang:

*‘I will bless the Light at all times.

Its praise shall continually be in my mouth.

My soul shall make her boast in the Light.

The humble shall hear of it and be glad.

O magnify the Light with me,

And let us exalt its name together.’”

📖 CHAPTER 30

Jesus said:

“It came to pass again, when Pistis Sophia had uttered the thirteenth repentance, that the time was fulfilled that she should be brought up out of the chaos entirely.

And I called to the Light and brought forth a great stream of power.

And the Light heard my voice and sent forth a power of great radiance.

And that power came and clothed Pistis Sophia,

And her wounds were healed,

And her light was restored,

And she was raised up to the thirteenth aeon,

To her rightful place among the daughters of the Light.”

CHAPTER 31

And it came to pass, when Jesus had spoken these words unto his disciples, he said unto them:

“Blessed is he who shall receive the mysteries of the Light, for he shall go and enter into the Treasure of Light.”

And Mary again came forward and said:

“My Lord, will all men be saved and enter the Treasure of Light, or only those who possess the mysteries?”

And Jesus answered and said unto her:

“It is not possible to forgive the sins of those who do not receive the mysteries.

For the mysteries are the light that removes the darkness.

Without the mysteries there is no light, and without light no soul can be saved.”

📖 CHAPTER 32

Jesus continued and said:

“Hearken, O disciples.

The mystery of the ineffable is the greatest of all mysteries.

It is the path of those who have received the Five Great Mysteries.

He who hath received them shall pass through all spaces, all archons, all veils, all tyrants.

Nothing shall bind him or delay him, for he is the Son of the Light.”

📖 CHAPTER 33

And Mary said unto Jesus:

“My Lord, thou sayest the mysteries lead to the Light.

Reveal unto us the names of the great orders of the Light Realm.”

And Jesus said:

“There are three great orders:

The order of the Light-treasure,

The order of the Right,

And the order of the Left.

He who is worthy shall be placed in the Right;

He who is imperfect but repentant shall be placed in the Middle.

He who is hardened in darkness shall be left to the Left, where there is no mystery.”

📖 CHAPTER 34

Jesus said:

“When I ascended after my crucifixion,

I passed through the archons of the aeons in the form of their angels.

And when I reached the gates of the firmament,

they were shaken, and all who beheld me fled away.”

Mary said:

“My Lord, this mystery is great.

Tell us what power aided thee.”

Jesus answered:

“It was the power of the First Mystery, which I received from my Father,

That power clothed me with garments of light and terror to the archons.”

📖 CHAPTER 35

Jesus said:

“When I came before the great archon of the aeons,

He asked me: ‘Whence dost thou come?’

And I answered him not,

For he was not worthy.

Then I called upon the First Mystery,

And it shone forth with power, and the archon fell down and worshipped the Light.

And I passed by him and took the light that he had taken from Sophia.”

📖 CHAPTER 36

Jesus said:

“Hear now what happened to the soul of Pistis Sophia.

When she had been brought back to her thirteenth aeon,

She was clothed in a garment of light.

And she remembered her home in the Treasury of Light,

And she wept and cried unto the Light, saying:

‘O Light, I will go to the place from which I came.

Let thy light guide me home.’”

📖 CHAPTER 37

It came to pass again that Mary said:

“My Lord, is the light that clothed Sophia the same as the light from the First Mystery?”

Jesus said:

“The Light that clothed her is the lower garment of the Light-treasure.

Only the perfected can receive the Robe of Glory.

Sophia shall dwell in the aeon, but not yet in the Inheritance of the Light.

For she was made perfect through repentance,

But she hath not yet received the mysteries of the heights.”

📖 CHAPTER 38

Jesus said:

“I will now reveal unto you the path of the souls.

When a soul leaves the body,

If it is righteous and has received the mysteries,

It shall ascend and pass the archons,

And they shall not detain it.

But if it has not received the mysteries,

Then the archons shall seize it,

And cast it into a body of the world again.”

📖 CHAPTER 39

Mary said:

“My Lord, is it possible that a soul that sinned but repented may also ascend?”

Jesus said:

“Yes, if it has repented in truth and received the lower mysteries.

For the Light is merciful.

But the soul must speak the mystery at each gate.

For every archon shall ask,

And the soul must know the name, the seal, the sign, and the number.”

📖 CHAPTER 40

Jesus said:

“When the soul hath passed the archons and comes to the Veil of the Treasury,

It must speak the name of the great Triple-powered One.

Only then shall the veil be drawn back,

And the soul enter the light-realm of its inheritance.”

📖 CHAPTER 41

Mary said:

“My Lord, are the souls that enter the Light forever at peace?”

Jesus said:

“Yea, they are at rest, and they shine as suns in the realm of the Light.

They shall never return to the world,

Nor to the aeons, nor to the archons.

They are crowned with the glory of the Father.”

📖 CHAPTER 42

Jesus said:

“Hear now the mystery of the aeons.

The aeons are twelve,

And within each are powers and orders.

The thirteenth is above them all.

And above the thirteenth is the Light-kingdom.

And above that is the Inheritance.

The place of rest.

The place of the Perfect.”

📖 CHAPTER 43

Mary said:

“My Lord, will the time come when the aeons shall end?”

Jesus said:

“Yes.

When the measure is full,

And all souls have either ascended or been judged,

Then the aeons shall dissolve.

And only the Light shall remain.”

📖 CHAPTER 44

Jesus said:

“There are those in the world who are of the Light,

But they know it not.

They wander in forgetfulness.

But when they hear the Word of the Light,

They remember, and they arise.

These are the children of the mystery.”

📖 CHAPTER 45

Mary said:

“What shall become of the archons when the aeons end?”

Jesus said:

“They shall dissolve into their own matter.

Their power shall be broken.

They shall return to the darkness from which they came,

For they have no light of their own.”

📖 CHAPTER 46

Jesus said:

“He who hath received the mysteries shall become a flame.

The archons shall fear him.

For the seal upon his brow shall blind them.

They shall know he is not of their world.”

📖 CHAPTER 47

Jesus said:

“Let he who seeks, continue seeking.

Let he who knocks, knock until the door is opened.

For the kingdom is within, and it is also beyond.

The Light is near to those who burn for it.”

📖 CHAPTER 48

Mary said:

“How many times may a soul return to a body?”

Jesus said:

“Until it receives the mystery.

Or until the great cycle ends.

Some return three times,

Some seven,

Some a hundred.

But no soul is forgotten.”

📖 CHAPTER 49

Jesus said:

“The world is a shadow.

It is a school, a furnace, a mirror.

Those who awaken shall escape it.

Those who love it shall remain.”

📖 CHAPTER 50

And Jesus raised his hand and blessed his disciples.

He said:

“You are my brethren of the Light.

I have given you the mysteries of the Kingdom.

Teach those who are worthy.

Hide the pearls from swine.

And know — I am with you,

Until the aeons dissolve in flame,

And the Light becomes All.”

CHAPTER 51

Jesus continued and said unto his disciples:

“Blessed is the soul who shall receive the mysteries of the First Mystery.

For he shall become a flame of light,

And the archons of the aeons shall fear him.

He shall enter the places of his inheritance,

And shall shine brighter than all.”

📖 CHAPTER 52

Mary said:

“My Lord, reveal to us the order of the spaces of the Light.”

Jesus said:

“The Treasuries are twelve in number.

Each treasury hath a gate, a veil, and a seal.

Each gate is guarded by powers.

He who knoweth the names, signs, and seals may enter.”

📖 CHAPTER 53

Jesus said:

“The first mystery of the First Mystery is the mystery of the Ineffable.

He who knoweth this mystery

Shall pass through all places without judgment.

He shall be above all orders,

And shall dwell in the Inheritance of Light.”

📖 CHAPTER 54

Mary said:

“My Lord, who is worthy to receive the First Mystery?”

Jesus answered:

“He who hath purified himself from the world.

Who hateth evil and loveth the Light.

Who hath received the Five Seals.

Who keepeth the mysteries and revealeth them not unto the unworthy.”

📖 CHAPTER 55

Jesus said:

“When the soul hath received the mysteries,

It shall be sealed with five seals.

The first is the Seal of the Light.

The second, the Seal of the Right.

The third, the Seal of the Holy Name.

The fourth, the Seal of the Mystery.

The fifth, the Seal of the Inheritance.”

📖 CHAPTER 56

Jesus said:

“He who is sealed with these shall be a pillar in the temple of my Father.

He shall not go out anymore.

He shall wear the Robe of Glory

And sit on the throne prepared for him.”

📖 CHAPTER 57

Mary said:

“My Lord, when the aeons dissolve,

What shall be the fate of the matter of the world?”

Jesus said:

“It shall be dissolved into the original chaos.

And the Light which was imprisoned shall return to its source.”

📖 CHAPTER 58

Jesus said:

“There are three orders of man.

The first are the spiritual — the children of the Light.

The second are the psychic — those of soul and flesh.

The third are the hylic — those of matter only.

The spiritual shall ascend.

The psychic must choose.

The hylic shall perish.”

📖 CHAPTER 59

Mary said:

“What becomes of the psychic soul that does not choose?”

Jesus said:

“It shall wander through the spheres

Until the end of the great cycle.

And then be judged according to its works.”

📖 CHAPTER 60

Jesus said:

“Let the one who has ears to hear, hear this:

The mysteries are a fire.

He who is prepared may enter and not be burned.

But he who is impure shall perish in the flame.”

📖 CHAPTER 61

Mary said:

“My Lord, what shall be the sign of the end?”

Jesus answered:

“There shall be signs in the heavens.

The stars shall fall.

The powers shall be shaken.

And the firmament shall be rent.”

📖 CHAPTER 62

Jesus said:

“Then shall the Son of Man appear,

In robes of light, with his angels.

He shall gather his elect from the four winds,

And take them to the Treasury of Light.”

📖 CHAPTER 63

Mary said:

“Will the world see thee again in the flesh?”

Jesus said:

“I shall return not as I was, but in the form of the Light of Lights.

Those with eyes to see shall behold me.

Others shall be blinded by their own darkness.”

📖 CHAPTER 64

Jesus said:

“There are powers in the world who claim to serve the Light

But are wolves in garments of righteousness.

Beware the false ones.

They know not the mysteries but speak them in pride.”

📖 CHAPTER 65

Mary said:

“My Lord, if we preach these things, shall the world hear us?”

Jesus said:

“Few shall hear, but those who do shall be called Sons of the Light.

Preach in secret.

Teach in whispers.

Hide pearls in parables.”

📖 CHAPTER 66

Jesus said:

“He who receives the mystery of the Ineffable shall become invisible to the archons.

He shall pass through the aeons in silence and return to his origin.”

📖 CHAPTER 67

Jesus said:

“When I ascended the second time, I took the souls of the righteous with me.

They now dwell in the twelfth treasury, awaiting the great release.”

📖 CHAPTER 68

Mary said:

“My Lord, is there a final judgment?”

Jesus said:

“The Light shall weigh all things.

The righteous shall rejoice.

The archons shall be judged.

The aeons shall dissolve.

And only the Light shall remain.”

📖 CHAPTER 69

Jesus said:

“These are the last teachings I give before I return to the place whence I came.

Keep them in secret.

Reveal them only to the worthy.”

📖 CHAPTER 70

Jesus lifted his hands and said:

“Blessed are you, my disciples.

For you have heard the voice of the Living Light.

Go now and shine your flame upon the earth.”

CHAPTER 71

It came to pass then, when Jesus had finished saying these words to his disciples, that Mary Magdalene stepped forward, bowed herself at his feet and said:

“My Lord, reveal unto us the completion of all mysteries, that we may be perfected and go to our dwelling places of Light.”

Jesus said unto her:

“Blessed art thou, Mary, thou who art full of Light and radiance, for the completion of the mysteries shall be given unto thee.

He who hath received the mystery of the Ineffable shall go through all spaces without fear. He shall pass by all rulers and authorities. They shall see him, and not lay hold upon him.

This is the last mystery which is greater than them all — the mystery of the restoration to the Treasury of the Light.”

📖 CHAPTER 72

Jesus said unto his disciples:

“When the soul is purified and hath received all the mysteries, it cometh to the region of the rulers of the great Fate.

And the soul sayeth unto them the name of the mystery of the Ineffable, and they withdraw themselves and open the gates.

And it entereth into the place of the thirteenth aeon, and the powers of the thirteenth aeon do not see it, nor do they seize it, because it is like the Invisible One.

And it goeth to the place of the Treasury of the Light, and the watchers at the gates see it not, because it is clothed in the garment of light, and it becometh a stream of flame.

And it goeth onward into the inheritance that hath been prepared for it from the beginning.”

📖 CHAPTER 73

Jesus continued and said:

“These are the names which ye shall speak as ye ascend through the veils:

At the veil of the thirteenth aeon, say: Iaō Iazō Mazōē Tzēlal.

At the veil of the region of the Light, say: Zama Zama Ōzza Rachama.

And at the gate of the Treasure of the Light, speak this name: Ieouē Sabaoch Thelemach Aelōnaei.

And the watchers shall open, and ye shall enter and become Light.”

📖 CHAPTER 74

Mary Magdalene said:

“My Lord, if a soul who has repented forgetteth these names in the hour of need, what shall be its fate?”

Jesus said:

“If it hath kept the mystery in its heart, though it speak not the names with the tongue, the Light will know it.

For the Light looketh upon the inward truth, not only upon words.

But if the soul hath received the mysteries and turned again unto the world in wickedness, it shall be seized and cast into the outer darkness, until the time is fulfilled.”

📖 CHAPTER 75

Jesus said:

“Now listen, and I will reveal unto you the last and highest invocation:

Say in silence and purity:

Amēn Amēn, Ieouē Mazareōth Abraoth Sabaōth Adōnai Theos.

This is the great name of the Light.

He who hath this within him shall ascend above all aeons.

Let no man utter this in vain,

For it is the seal of the Most High.

And when ye have spoken it in secret,

Let your soul become flame,

And ascend unto the foot of the Throne.”

CHAPTER 76

Jesus continued, saying to his disciples:

“Now he who shall receive the mysteries of the Ineffable,

Shall be hidden from all the archons and tyrants.

They shall not see him, neither shall they seize him.

For he shall become a flame of light,

And his name shall be written in the Treasury of the Light.”

📖 CHAPTER 77

Mary said:

“My Lord, wilt thou that we write these things and preserve them?”

Jesus said:

“Write them in a book,

And hide it beneath a rock.

Seal it with seven seals,

That the children of the Light may find it in their time.”

And John wrote all these things,

And hid them, as the Lord commanded.

📖 CHAPTER 78

Jesus said:

“These are the names which ye shall speak

At the gates of the Treasuries of the Light:

At the first gate, say: Zama Zama Ozza Rachama.

At the second gate, say: Amena Amena Ramen Elai.

At the third gate, say: Ioel Zaoel Bathoth Olam.

He who speaketh these names shall not be turned away,

But shall pass through in peace.”

📖 CHAPTER 79

Jesus said:

“When the soul hath reached the upper firmament,

It must utter the name of the Invisible One:

Ieoua Zoe Aletheia.

Then the firmament shall open,

And the soul shall ascend beyond the limits of the aeons.”

📖 CHAPTER 80

Mary said:

“My Lord, what shall we do after thy departure?”

Jesus said:

“Guard the mysteries.

Teach the worthy in secret.

Speak in parables to the uninitiated.

Anoint with oil, baptize in the Light,

And seal the chosen with the Five Seals.”

📖 CHAPTER 81

Jesus said:

“He who blasphemes the Light

Shall have no forgiveness in this aeon nor the next.

But he who sins through ignorance

Shall be purified through repentance and mystery.”

📖 CHAPTER 82

Jesus said:

“These are the Three Seals of Protection:

1. The Name of the Father of the Treasuries.

2. The Sign of the Ineffable.

3. The Oath of the Light.”

Bind these on your hearts,

And the archons shall have no power over you.”

📖 CHAPTER 83

And Jesus called Mary Magdalene and said unto her:

“Thou art the woman who shall become a flame.

I shall fill thee with the fullness of all mysteries.

Go and teach them to the sons of Light.

Anoint the women who are worthy.

And thou shalt be called The Womb of Wisdom.”

📖 CHAPTER 84

Jesus said:

“Keep now the secret words:

Amēn, amēn, I say unto you,

He who receives the mysteries and guards them

Shall ascend to the place prepared for him from the beginning.

And I shall meet him there,

In the garment of the First Mystery.”

📖 CHAPTER 85

Mary said:

“My Lord, what shall we say when the rulers of the world judge us?”

Jesus said:

“Say this:

I am of the Light.

I know the path.

I carry the name.

I have the seal.

And they shall have no power over you.”

📖 CHAPTER 86

Jesus said:

“Behold, I give you the mystery of the return:

Every soul shall return to the place of its origin.

If it is of the Light, it shall ascend.

If it is of darkness, it shall descend.

If it is mixed, it shall choose and be judged.”

📖 CHAPTER 87

Jesus said:

“I leave you now the formula of the holy invocation.

Speak it in silence, and the veils shall part:

Ieouē Sabao Thelemach Zorokoth Aelōnaei.

These are the syllables of the Light-body.

He who speaks them in purity shall become radiant.”

📖 CHAPTER 88

Mary bowed herself before Jesus and said:

“We have heard all.

We have believed all.

We shall keep the mysteries unto the end.”

And Jesus said:

“You are my brothers and sisters of the Light.

You are the stars of the Treasury.

Shine until I come again.”

📖 CHAPTER 89

And it came to pass, when Jesus had spoken these words,

He lifted up his hands and blessed them.

A great light shone round about him,

And a voice came from the height, saying:

“This is my Son, in whom I am well pleased.

He has revealed the mysteries of the Light.”

📖 CHAPTER 90( full texts hear on out )

It came to pass then, when Jesus had finished speaking these words unto his disciples, that he said unto them:

“Understand ye in what manner I discourse with you?”

Peter started forward and said:

“My Lord, we will not endure this woman, for she taketh the opportunity from us and hath let none of us speak, but she discourseth many times.”

And Jesus answered and said unto his disciples:

“Let him in whom the power of his spirit shall seethe, so that he understandeth what I say, come forward and speak.

But now, Peter, I see thy power in thee that it understandeth the solution of the mystery of the repentance of Pistis Sophia.

Now, therefore, Peter, speak the thought of her repentance in the midst of thy brethren.”

Peter answered and said unto Jesus:

“O Lord, give commandment unto me to speak the solution of the repentance which Pistis Sophia hath uttered.”

And Jesus gave commandment unto Peter and said:

“Unto thee, O Peter, I give commandment, speak the thought of her repentance which she hath uttered.”

Peter answered and said unto Jesus:

“O Lord, concerning the solution of the repentance which Pistis Sophia hath uttered, thy light-power which was in David hath prophesied aforetime in the one-hundred-and-eighteenth Psalm:

1. ’Give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

2. Let Israel now say that he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

3. Let the house of Aaron now say that he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

4. Let them now that fear the Lord say that he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

5. I called upon the Lord in distress: the Lord answered me, and set me in a large place.

6. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

7. The Lord taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.

8. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

9. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.’

91

Jesus said unto them:

“Well said, Peter, and well blessed are ye beyond all men upon earth, for I have revealed unto you these mysteries.

And truly I say unto you: I have brought nothing into the world when I came, save this word and this mystery, which belongeth to the spaces of the Light.

And I have brought it from the beginning to the end, in order that the souls of all the men who shall believe in the mystery may inherit the Light-kingdom.

And for this cause have I said unto you aforetime: ‘He who hath ears to hear, let him hear.’”

Mary came forward again and said:

“My Lord, this is the word which thou didst speak unto us aforetime in a mystery: ‘He who hath ears to hear, let him hear,’—thou didst desire to know whose heart is ardently raised to the kingdom of heaven.”

Jesus said unto her:

“Well said, Mary, thou blessed one, the fulness or the plērōma of all plērōmas,

thou who shalt be called the plērōma of plērōmas.

Now, therefore, hearken that I may speak the solution of that word.

“It came to pass then, when the sun had risen in the east,

that a great light-power descended, in which was my vesture,

which I had left behind in the four-and-twentieth mystery, as I have said unto you.

And I found a mystery in my vesture, written in five words of those from the height:

ZAMA ZAMA ŌZZA RACHAMA ŌZAI,—whose solution is this:

‘O Mystery, which is outside the world, for whose sake the universe hath arisen,

this is the total outgoing and the total ascent,

which hath emanated all emanations and all that is;

come unto us, for we are thy fellow-members.

We are all one with thee.

We are one and the same.

Thou art the First Mystery, who existed before all things,

and thou art the mystery of the beginning of the emanation.’

“Now, therefore, hearken, Mary, and all ye brethren, and share in the regions of the Light with me.

For I have brought this mystery from the beginning to the end,

in order that I might place it in the last limitation and in the last mystery from within, the four-and-twentieth mystery.”

It came to pass then, when Jesus had said these words unto his disciples, that he continued again in the discourse, and said unto them:

“It came to pass, when I had brought the mystery of the kingdom of the Light into the twelve saviours and into all their angels and in all their archangels and in all their powers,—and in all the regions of the emanations of the Light and in all the regions of the emanations of the Treasury of the Light, and in all the regions of those who are in the Right, and in all the regions of the Midst, and in all the regions of the Left, and in all the regions of those who are in the height, and in all the regions of those who are in the depth, and in all the regions in which I had been and spoken with you, and in all the regions of all their rulers and in all the regions of every one, —that they all may be light-streams and may speed quickly to all the rulers and all the powers who are in the æons, and in the orders of the Fate and of the sphere and in all the regions which are under the earth,—in order that they may come to the mysteries of the Light and may be saved from all the regions of the darkness,—then all the rulers of the æons and all the powers in them and all the lords and all the archangels and all the angels and all the powers of the Fate and of the sphere, and all the great invisible ones and all the great triple-powered ones and all the great forefathers and all the great unpaired ones and all the rulers of the Midst and of those of the Right and of those of the Left, and of those of the height and of those of the depth, and of those of the underworld, —in a word, all those who are in the whole of the emanations of the Light,—were moved one with another and rushed all together and came all together and wept, and made proclamation concerning the great mercy which I had towards them, in that I had brought them the mysteries of the Light.

“And when I came into the height, to the veils of the thirteenth æon, —the veils of the thirteenth æon were drawn apart and opened of their own accord, that I might enter into their regions,—and I entered into the thirteenth æon and found Pistis Sophia below, alone and none of them was with her. But she was sitting in that region grieving and mourning because she had not been taken into the thirteenth æon, her higher region.

“And she was moreover grieving because of the vexation which Self-willed had caused her, he who is one of the three triple-powered ones, him whom I cast down to dwell in the chaos. And when I had found her below in the thirteenth æon, mourning and grieving because she had not been taken into her region, —in that hour then her repentance took hold of herself, and she knew that it was because of her mystery that she had not been taken into her region in the thirteenth æon; and she grieved greatly and repented with a loud voice.

“Now, therefore, when she had finished uttering the thirteenth repentance, —in that hour was fulfilled the commandment of all the tribulations which were decreed for Pistis Sophia, for she had repented and had been accepted; and the time was fulfilled that she should be led out of the chaos. And I found her in the chaos, not only she herself, but also the 24 invisibles who were with her, who had not been able to come forth from the chaos, and I took them and led them into a region which is below the thirteenth æon, and gave them a new mystery of the Light, and they became light-streams in the Light and were accepted into the kingdom of the Light.”

93

It came to pass then, when Jesus had said this unto his disciples, that he said unto them:

“This is the solution of the mystery of the repentance of Pistis Sophia. Let him then who understandeth, understand.”

Mary again came forward and said:

“My Lord, bid me also to speak the solution of the thirteenth repentance of Pistis Sophia.”

Jesus said:

“I bid thee, Mary, my blessed one, that thou mayest speak the interpretation of her repentance.”

Mary answered and said unto Jesus:

“My Lord, concerning this thy light-power prophesied in the past through David, in the one hundred and second Psalm, saying:

1. Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

2. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

3. Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

4. Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

5. Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

6. The Lord executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.

7. He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.

8. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.

9. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.

10. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

11. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.

12. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

13. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.”

94

It came to pass then, when Mary had said this unto Jesus in the midst of the disciples, that he said unto her:

“Well said, Mary, thou blessed one, the fulness of all blessings, thou who shalt be blessed before all generations.”

Mary continued again and said unto Jesus:

“My Lord, do not be wroth with me if I question thee; but have mercy upon us, my Lord, and reveal unto us in openness: How was it thou didst come into the midst of the chaos, in which thou didst find Pistis Sophia? For thou didst say unto us: ‘I entered into the chaos.’”

Jesus answered and said unto Mary:

“It came to pass, when the sun had risen in the east, that through the first commandment of the First Mystery, I looked down on the world of mankind and found Pistis Sophia in the chaos, grieving and mourning because she was in the chaos and had not been led into the thirteenth æon, her rightful region.

And she repented with a loud voice, saying: ‘O Light of lights, in whom I have trusted from the beginning, hearken now to my repentance and save me out of this chaos.’

At that moment, through the commandment of the First Mystery, I descended into the chaos, and I found Pistis Sophia below the thirteenth æon, grieving and mourning.

And she rejoiced when she saw me, that I had come to save her out of the chaos.

She cried out unto me and said: ‘O Light of lights, the true Light, come save me, for I know that thou art my saviour from this chaos.’”

95

Jesus continued again in the discourse and said unto his disciples:

“It came to pass then, when I had come forth out of the chaos, I ascended into the height, shining with an immeasurable light, and I came before the veils of the thirteenth æon. And they drew apart of their own accord, that I might enter into their regions.

And I entered into the thirteenth æon and found Pistis Sophia below, sitting in that region.

“And I spake with her, saying:

‘Pistis Sophia, wherefore art thou in this place?’

And she answered me, saying:

‘O Light of lights, in whom I have had faith from the beginning, for because I believed in thy light, have I been brought to this place of the chaos, and I am in affliction in the darkness and the matter.

And from that time unto now have I been in this region.’

“And it came to pass, when she had said this unto me, that I took her and brought her unto a region which is below the thirteenth æon, and gave unto her a mystery in the form of a light-stream.

And she received it, and I led her into a region which is above the chaos, which is below the thirteenth æon, and gave unto her another mystery.

And she received it, that she might be able to enter into the thirteenth æon.

And I led her into the thirteenth æon.

“And it came to pass then, when I had led her into the thirteenth æon, that she rejoiced greatly and exulted exceedingly,

and she sang praises unto the Light,

for that she had been saved from the bonds of the chaos and from the afflictions of the darkness and of the matter.”

96

It came to pass then, when Jesus had finished saying these words unto his disciples, that he said unto them:

“Do ye understand in what manner I discourse with you?”

Mary came forward and said:

“My Lord, I have understood the word which thou hast spoken.

Concerning this thy power hath prophesied aforetime through Solomon in the nineteenth Ode and said:

1. The Lord is on my head like a crown, and I shall not be without him.

2. They wove for me a crown of truth, and it caused thy branches to bud in me.

3. For it is not like a dry crown which buddeth not.

4. Thou livest upon my head and thou hast blossomed upon me.

5. Thy fruits are full and complete.

6. They are full of thy salvation.”

When Mary had finished saying these words, Jesus said:

“Well said, Mary, thou blessed one, the fulness of all blessings, thou who shalt be blessed before all generations.”

97

Jesus continued again in the discourse and said unto his disciples:

“It came to pass, when I had brought Pistis Sophia out of the chaos, and when I had brought her into the thirteenth æon, and when I had sealed her in those regions, so that none of the rulers of the twelve æons should be able to attack her, and when I had made her wings of light of the light which I had received from the Pistis Sophia, then it came to pass, when I had sealed her in the height, and was about to go forth out of the thirteenth æon…

“And I came into the twelve æons, shining brightly, and there was no measure for the light which I had.

For I shone exceedingly; and there was no light in the twelve æons which was above the light which I had.

And when I entered into the twelve æons, all the rulers were disturbed one with another, and were amazed and said:

‘What is the mystery which hath entered into the æons, seeing that it is without measure?’

“And all their æons and all their heavens and all their spheres moved one over against the other,

being afraid because of the great light which had come into their æons.

And their triple-powers, and their great forefathers, and their unpaired ones, and the whole regions of their rulers,

and all their archangels, and all their angels, and all their powers, and all their light-givers, and all their gods,

and all their lords, and all their authorities, and all their tyrants, and all their powers, and their whole root,

were all disturbed and moved against each other because of the great light that had entered into their region.”

98

And their great confusion and fear reached up to the dwelling of the First Mystery, which is in the treasury.

And he looked down into the twelve æons and saw the confusion and great fear and agitation which was in them,

and he looked down unto the regions of the Fate and of the sphere, and saw also there great agitation and fear;

and he looked down unto the world of mankind and saw also agitation and fear growing in men,

and a great anxiety rising in their hearts.

Then the First Mystery called upon me and said:

“O Light, go down, take thy light-power which is pure, which I have given thee before the world was made,

and withdraw the power of all the rulers of the æons and of all their regions and of all their heavens and of all their Fate and of all their sphere,

for they have contrived to work against the light and have made plans without having my command.”

And I went down from above and shone with a light beyond all measure, and I entered into the twelve æons.

And the rulers of the æons were all in confusion, and I took away a third part of their power and made them confused in their paths.

And I made them quickly abandon their regions and their æons, and I cast them down to the chaos.

99

It came to pass then, when I had cast them down to the chaos, that I ascended again into their æons,

so that I might take away light-power from all the rulers of the æons and of all their heavens and of all their powers,

in order that I might take away all their power, which they had taken from the light,

and that I might bind them in the sphere of the Fate and in their sphere;

and I took away all their light, and I bound them all in the sphere of the Fate and in their sphere.

And I set a sealer over them, and I sealed them with the light of my garment and with a power and commanded them not to rebel.

And I made the sealer of the sphere revolve continually, and I made the sealer of the Fate and of the æons and of their heavens and of their sphere revolve continually.

And I sealed them with a great seal and commanded it that it should seal the regions of the æons and their heavens and their Fate and their sphere and all their regions,

so that none of them might be able to transgress their regions nor to cause confusion in the world or in the race of mankind.

100

It came to pass then, when I had sealed the regions of the rulers,

so that they might not be able to trouble the world and the men who are in it,

that I again ascended to the height and shone forth with the last mystery,

which is the twenty-fourth mystery from within without — those that are in the second space of the First Mystery,

who surround the First Mystery from within — and I shone forth in that region

and I shone forth in their region forty-nine times,

and each time I shone forth in their region, all their regions and all their æons and all their heavens and all their spheres

moved one against another and were in great agitation and fear because of the great light which shone forth.

And their confusion reached unto the region of the great invisible Forefather,

and of the great invisible God, and of the three triple-powers,

and all their regions were in agitation and moved one against another,

being afraid of the great light which shone forth in their region.

101

It came to pass then, when those who belonged to the orders of the two spaces of the First Mystery had seen the great light which was about me,

that great fear came upon them, and they fell into agitation and fled to the regions of the chaos.

And they cried aloud, saying:

“How hath the Lord of the universe passed through us without our knowing it?”

And all the bonds of their regions were loosened, and their æons and their universe became free in that hour.

And they all fled and hid themselves in the regions of the chaos below.

And all the archons and all the tyrants and all the powers who are in the æons and in all the heavens,

and their triple-powers and their great forefathers and their unpaired ones,

and all the great invisible ones, and all the rulers and all the gods and their light-givers and their ministers,

and all the powers which are in the thirteenth æon,

all fell into great agitation and fear, when they saw the great light which was about me.

And they fled to the regions of the chaos, crying out and saying:

“How hath the Lord of the universe passed through us without our knowing it?”

And all their bonds were loosened and their regions and æons became free in that hour.
